Behind the pseudonym Tonème is Thomas Pirot, a multi-instrumentalist who has been active on stage alongside Talisco for 6 years. With this solo project, Tonème claims her freedom and shapes her own language. Carbon, an EP where the state of the world echoes its internal struggles, wavering between feelings of helplessness and intimate rage.
In four powerful, sensitive and political tracks, Tonème invokes Frank Ocean’s hip hop, Fever Ray’s icy electro and Beach House’s dream pop. Carbon thus awakens the charred residues of interior fires and the smothered flames of fake lovers, the embers of necessarily incandescent fights.
The conquering visual of the EP, a painting by Thomas Pirot, evokes both the eruption of a volcano under its lava sea and the seal of a sharp wound. With this artwork as its coat of arms, Carbon is the standard by which Toneme asserts its emancipation and its past and future battles.
